Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board releases 6th Annual Report on Casino Industry Diversity18 September 2013HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today released the annual Gaming Diversity Report that outlines how casinos in the Commonwealth are meeting goals to provide diverse groups with employment and business opportunities. The report can be downloaded as a PDF document from a link under the Quick Links section of the home page of the Board's website. The 2012-2013 Gaming Diversity Report includes statewide statistics, along with statistics for each of the 12 casinos in operation, for: Employment trends by race and gender; Construction and non-construction expenditures with minority and local businesses; and, The overall number of Pennsylvanians employed at casinos. "The Gaming Control Board is committed to monitoring, and sharing with the public, the activities of the casinos in promoting diversity and ensuring compliance with the Gaming Act," said Mozelle Daniels, the Board's Director of Diversity. "Along with following best practices in minority employee recruitment, training and retention, Pennsylvania casinos are showing a steadfast commitment to expanding opportunities to qualified minority businesses that are capable of providing exceptional services at competitive value and cost." Some highlights from the report, with figures through June 30, 2013: there are 16,644 casino employees, of which 89%, or 14,832 individuals are Pennsylvanian residents 43%, or 7,129 individuals are female 31% of total employees are minority 79% of table games employees are Pennsylvania residents outside expenditures for goods and services with construction and non-construction gaming service providers totaled $423 million. About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board: The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. Pennsylvania's first new state agency in nearly 30 years, the Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state's casino industry. The 12 casinos in operation all offer both slot machine and table game gambling, employ over 16,000 people, and collectively generate an average of $4 million per day in tax revenue. A portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners; provide funds to the Commonwealth's horse racing industry, fire companies, a statewide water and sewer project grant program, and the state's General Fund; and, established a new stream of tax revenue to local governments that host casinos for community projects. |
