Pennsylvania exceeds gaming revenue by half billion dollars from 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- It was another record year for legalized gaming regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) with revenue nearly a half billion dollars higher than the previous year.

In calendar year 2022, the combined revenue of slot machine, table games, sports wagering, iGaming, video gaming terminals (VGTs) and fantasy contests totaled $5,211,303,191 compared to $4,734,552,201 in 2021.

This also resulted in record combined tax revenue production from gaming in 2022 of $2,123,015,118 compared to $1,931,219,603 in 2021. Tax revenue figures reflect amounts generated prior to any adjustments by the PA Department of Revenue.

Retail Slot Machine Revenue:
Gross revenue from slot machines at the casinos was $2,390,757,300, a 4.51% increase in revenue when compared to the $2,287,529,465 generated in 2021.

Retail Table Games Revenue:
2022 revenue from table games at the casinos was $990,568,468, an 7.10% increase in revenue when compared to the $924,902,965 generated in 2021.

Sports Wagering Revenue:
2022 revenue from sports wagering was $401,208,108, an 17.96% increase in revenue when compared to the $340,113,160 generated in 2021. Sports wagering handle, the amount wagered through both retail and online, was $7.25 billion, an 10.67% increase over 2021’s handle of $6.55 billion.

Fantasy Contests Revenue:
2022 revenue from fantasy contests was $22,297,399, a -23.90% decrease in revenue when compared to the $29,298,635 generated in 2021.

iGaming Revenue:
2022 revenue for iGaming was $1,364,392,468 a 22.60% increase in revenue when compared to the $1,112,855,937 generated in 2021. At the end of 2021 there were 10 iGaming certificate holders in Pennsylvania.

Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs):
2022 revenue for VGTs at Truck Stops was $42,079,447 a 5.59% increase in revenue when compared to the $39,852,039 generated in 2021. At the end of the year there were 66 VGT facilities in Pennsylvania.
