Pennsylvania County Seeks Public Input6 June 2005EASTON, Pennsylvania – As reported by the New Jersey Express-Times: "Northampton County Council will hold a public hearing on proposals to establish slot machine casinos on Bethlehem's South Side and elsewhere in the county from 7 to 9 p.m. June 28 at Foy Hall on Moravian College's campus. "Citing a need to gauge citizens' support for the plans, Councilman Nick Sabatine first proposed in January a hearing on the prospect of gaming parlors. He said council must examine the possibility that legalized gambling will introduce social ills to the community. "Although the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has yet to begin the process of accepting and processing applications for casino licenses, three developers have announced plans to pursue licenses. "…Although county council has no influence over the licensing decision, Sabatine said council's ability to make an informed statement to the gaming control board about the views of its constituency may hold some power…" |
