Pennsylvania County Not Interested in Gambling Expansion

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Reading Eagle: "Ronald Raser shivered in between drags on a cigarette as he waited for a tour bus to Caesars Atlantic City casino.

"Standing in a northeast Reading parking lot as dusk arrived and the temperature dropped into the teens, Raser said that every two or three months, he heads for the New Jersey casinos on a bus.

"…Raser said legalizing slot machines in Pennsylvania would grab his interest.

"…But Raser and the thousands from Berks who trek to Atlantic City each year probably will be left out in the cold even if the Legislature opens up the state to slot machines this year, according to lawmakers, gaming-industry officials and others.

"State Rep. Dante Santoni Jr., a Reading Democrat, said no real push has been made to bring gambling to Berks.

"Further, he said, any attempts to extend gambling into places such as Berks likely would spark demands from other counties to be included in the expansion…"
