Pennsylvania county may lose out

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the York Dispatch: "If a slots casino comes to Gettysburg, York County might lose out on the profits.

"State Rep. Steven Nickol, R-Hanover, is pushing for a law that would exclude York, Franklin and Cumberland counties from economic development funds generated by slot machines from a proposed casino near Gettysburg.

"Nickol said yesterday that he's pushing for the amendment because most of the impact from the construction of a casino would be felt in Adams County.

"…Under the existing law passed in 2004, counties that host a casino and the counties that surround the host county would all receive a share of an economic development account that is funded by 2 percent of the slot machine proceeds.

"A casino near Gettysburg could generate more than $1 million a year for the economic development fund, Nickol said. The Department of Community and Economic Development would then decide how much of the money would go to Adams and the surrounding counties, such as York…"
