Pennsylvania Casino Plans Move Forward

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Scranton Times Tribune: "Plans are moving forward for development of a hotel and casino complex at the former Mount Airy Lodge even though it is unclear whether or when the facility will receive a slot-machine parlor license.

"The developers of the $300-million complex submitted a plan Tuesday to the Paradise Township Planning Commission to consolidate 59 deeds covering the 890-acre property into three deeds.

"…Plans were unveiled in May for a seven-story hotel and 200,000-square foot gambling area at Mount Airy, which once was a premier Poconos resort but closed in 2001.

"Dunmore businessman Louis DeNaples bought the property for $25.1 million in December and CECO officials said he plans to have 2,400 to 3,000 slot machines in the casino area. He is expected to seek a $5 million standalone license permitting up to 5,000 slot machines, according to plans filed in Paradise Township.

"State regulators are expected to issue four standalone licenses outside of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and horse-racing tracks next year or in 2007…"
