Pennsylvania Casino May Open by 2006

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Almost everywhere they go, Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board members get asked the same question -- when will slots players be able to hit triple 7s on one-armed-bandits in the Keystone State?

"There's still no definite answer, but two gaming board members indicated to a state House committee yesterday that some of the new racetrack/casinos could be ready for action by late 2006.

"Before a racetrack/casino can open with up to 5,000 slot machines, its owner will have to get a conditional gaming license from the seven-member board, chaired by Thomas 'Tad' Decker, a Philadelphia lawyer.

"The timetable for the licenses has slipped a bit, because of a lawsuit filed against the state slots law. It delayed implementation of the law for several months, but things are moving forward after the state Supreme Court essentially dismissed the challenge.

"As a result, Decker now thinks conditional licenses could be issued by early 2006 to The Meadows harness track in Washington County and several other tracks around the state…"
