Pennsylvania Casino Bidders Launch Mail Campaign31 May 2006PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Morning Call: "With Friday's deadline to comment on gambling proposals looming, the casino operators behind proposals in Allentown and Bethlehem have turned up the heat in their public relations campaigns and mailed thousands of glossy fliers that give residents a quick and free way to show their support. "Sands Bethworks Gaming sent out 30,000 full-color booklets, which highlight the buzz words of jobs and the historic preservation of the iconic Bethlehem Steel plant. The mailer includes two postcards to sign and send to the state Gaming Control Board in support of the project in south Bethlehem. "…A few weeks ago, Aztar Corp. sent out similar mailings describing how the Tropicana's 'world-class casino' is 'an opportunity that Allentown can't afford to lose,' punctuating how it would bring in 750 construction jobs, 1,300 full-time jobs and $525 million in investment. "…The postcards arrived in Lehigh Valley residents' mailboxes within weeks of Friday's deadline for the public to send their written comments to the Gaming Control Board. The comment period follows the board's 18-stop statewide tour that included 100 hours of testimony about where the state should place 61,000 slot machines in 14 casinos. Developers in Allentown and Bethlehem are among six groups competing for two available free-standing casino licenses…" |
