Pennsylvania Candidate Supports Penguin's Plan

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Lynn Swann, the Republican candidate for governor, today endorsed the Penguins' plan to build an arena with slots money if its gambling partner wins the license for a casino in Pittsburgh.

"'We get in the city of Pittsburgh a brand new arena -- a $280 million facility -- that does not cost taxpayers a single cent,' Swann said at a noon news conference in the Lower Hill District.

"…Swann's announcement comes even as Gov. Ed Rendell lays out his alternate plan to build an arena without slots money. Rendell has said his plan will offer a safety net in case Isle of Capri does not win the license for a slots parlor. He has said he will not endorse any casino proposal…"
