Pennsylvania board split proposed23 August 2007HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Concerned that the Gaming Control Board's image has been tarnished by its handling of slots license awards, two House Republican lawmakers say they will introduce legislation today to separate the board from its enforcement arm. "Reps. Douglas Reichley of Lehigh County and Mike Vereb of Montgomery County are seeking to amend the state gaming law so that the Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement would no longer answer to the board. Their bill comes after a grand jury investigation into one slots license holder and with questions lingering about the awarding of other licenses in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. "...Under their proposal the attorney general would supervise investigations, while the bureau would be free to work with the attorney general without board approval..." |
