Pennsylvania benefits from slot revenue3 January 2008PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Pennsylvania Observer-Reporter: "When the state Legislature legalized slots gambling, talk immediately turned to where the extra revenue would go. "At first, the focus was on the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the money could help solve the long-standing problems associated with Pennsylvania school property taxes. While that promise is still on the table once the state revenue pot reaches a certain level, just how that might be accomplished remains in limbo. "What has become more of a sure bet for Washington County is the local share of the revenue generated by The Meadows Racetrack & Casino. "...Now comes the disbursement of approximately $8 million, representing 4 percent of the gross revenue from the slots terminals during 2007. Organizations from throughout the county are eligible for a share of the pie, and many of them submitted applications just prior to the Dec. 31 deadline..." |
