Pennsylvania Bar Owners Want Poker Machines

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Bar owners said today they would be willing to share with the state some of the revenue from their video poker machines, many of which now are used for illegal payoffs to players.

"Several hundred bar, tavern and restaurant owners asked the General Assembly to let them have legal video poker machines in their establishments.

"…The bar owners, holding signs reading 'Support Small Business' and 'Give Us a Shot -- Amend the Slots,' packed the Capitol rotunda and spilled down the outside steps in a show of support for a bill sponsored by state Rep. Paul Costa, D-Wilkins.

"He introduced the bill to legalize video poker and keno machines in bars and restaurants last year, but it's been stuck in a House committee for months. Costa said he isn't seeking to have slot machines in bars, just video poker or keno machines. He was hoping to have his measure approved by the time the summer recess starts June 30, but time is getting short…"
