PEI Urged to Increase Treatment Ads

8 August 2005

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND – As reported by the CBC News: "With the number of video lottery terminals at the Charlottetown Driving Park set to increase this week, there are calls for government to better advertise its treatment program for gambling addiction.

"With the number of video lottery terminals at the Charlottetown Driving Park set to increase this week, there are calls for government to better advertise its treatment program for gambling addiction.

"The revamped entertainment centre at the racetrack, which has been dubbed a 'racino,' will increase its number of slot machines from 10 to 225, just in time for Old Home Week.

"The move has anti-gambling advocates such as Leo Broderick saying the province should put some of its VLT profits into helping addicts.

"…A P.E.I. government spokesperson says the province is expecting results from a gambling study some time in the next few months, and will await those findings before making any changes to current policy."
