PEI may get casino

CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island – As reported by the Chronicle Herald: "The Atlantic Lottery Corp. is preparing a business plan to convert the gaming facility at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre to a full casino.

"Provincial Treasurer Mitch Murphy said in the legislature earlier this week that government won't move on the issue until it receives that plan and an impact study on how the conversion would affect the number of problem gamblers. The facility, known locally as a racino and containing 225 video lottery terminals, lost $2.5 million in its first year of operation.

"…He said exit surveys conducted by patrons at the current facility have pointed to the need for poker tables and that government has a 'level of comfort' with that. Mr. Murphy said there have been no discussions to this point about the possibility of roulette tables…"
