Pechanga Uses Tablet Computers

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the San Bernardino Business Press: "Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula uses 200 tablet computers to track players and save money.

"The casino purchased 70 tablet touch-screen computers for gaming tables three years ago, replacing a system of hand-written data on index cards that tracked the time players began and ended playing, table stakes, name, account number and seat number. Pit bosses carried the cards to casino clerks who typed the data into computers.

"The casino now has 200 tablet computers, including 40 or 50 used to train employees in a replica of the casino's gaming floor.

"With the new computerized system, the dealer swipes a magnetic strip through a tablet computer that automatically updates player information, including average bet, table limits and length of time played.

"The cards, for either the table games or the slot machines, are free and optional. The cards entitle players to receive free meals or rooms based on the amount of time played.

"…The card-swiping system freed 12 to 15 data entry clerks for other duties…"
