Pataki's Gaming Commission Idea Approved4 June 2004ALBANY, New York – As reported by the Newsday: "Gov. George Pataki's plan to create a gambling commission to regulate horse tracks and the new gambling parlors featuring video lottery terminals sailed through the Republican-controlled state Senate Thursday. "Despite grumbling by Democrats that they were given almost no time to study the Pataki proposal, the bill was approved 49-10 and sent to the Democrat-dominated Assembly. "…The gambling commission, comprised of the governor's appointees, would oversee the gambling halls at horse tracks featuring slot machine-like VLTS, as well as 'all facets of legalized gaming and horse racing.' The legislation would also empower the commission to temporarily operate a race track or VLT hall, which is expected to bring hundreds of millions of dollars in state in revenues…" |
