Partners Bet on Omaha Casino

OMAHA, Nebraska – As reported by the Omaha World-Herald: "…Seven Omaha businessmen, including an insurance agent and a carpet-store owner, have a 20 percent stake in any future Omaha casino venture by Coast Casinos of Las Vegas.

"The seven also are helping Coast bankroll the campaign to win voter approval of Initiatives 417-420, which would locate two casinos in Omaha and up to 4,900 slot machines statewide.

"…They are successful businessmen with long ties to Omaha and to one another, both personally and professionally.

"…The seven: Steven Bloch, 63, an attorney; Sanford "Sandy" Kasner, 73, president of Sandy Kasner Carpeting Inc.; Robert Asmus, 74, a retired veterinarian supply businessman; Norman Veitzer, 69, part owner of Omaha Bedding Co.; Arnold Joffe, 65, an insurance executive; and brothers Michael Erman, 65, and Joseph, 57, Erman, former owners of Beef Nebraska Inc.

"All have kept a low profile in this year's combative gambling debate. None has participated, publicly, in the debate.

"…Bloch noted that the partners' investment could go unrewarded. If Nebraska approves expanded gambling in November, competition for a casino license is expected to be fierce.

"…The seven men make up the River Road Partners, a limited partnership. That partnership joined with Coast Casinos to form Omaha Partners, a limited liability company, in Nebraska.

"Under the agreement between the seven and Coast Casinos, the Omaha men will give $2 for every $8 that Coast Casinos has invested in the gambling campaign. If the four gambling initiatives are approved by voters - and if Coast lands a license - the seven would have a 20 percent stake in the casino-hotel…"
