Parking Hike Angers Tropicana Construction Workers21 July 2004ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "…Looking for a good parking spot is like placing a bet at the tables. You expect to come up empty, but occasionally luck plays in your favor. "But construction crews working on the Tropicana Casino and Resort say now the odds are stacked against them. "Tropicana recently raised its early morning parking rates from $4 to $20. Construction workers are complaining the increase unfairly targets them. "The higher fee is in place only from 5 to 8 a.m., the time most crews are arriving to work. "'I come in at 7 a.m. and I'm told it's $20 to park in their garage,' insulator Lester Perkins said. 'It's not right. They want us to build their garage and their casino, but they don't want us to park there.' "…A sign near the entrance to the lots informs motorists of the higher fee, but also indicates hotel guests and player-card holders will be charged the standard rate. "…'Quite honestly, not only at peak construction period but also at peak visitor period, we are at a situation where we can't displace our visitors to make room for construction workers,' Tropicana spokeswoman Maureen Siman said…" |
