Park Place's $75 Million Parking Garage Gets Go Ahead

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Gov. James E. McGreevey will join hands with Park Place Entertainment on Sunday afternoon to announce the resumption of plans to build a massive parking garage critical to the future of the city's midtown retail development.

"The $75 million public display of affection between the governor and the city's No. 1 casino company will come after a bitter feud that culminated July 1, when McGreevey socked the gaming industry with $90 million in tax hikes.

"Last month Park Place CEO Wallace Barr privately met McGreevey in what was evidently a productive session to repair their relationship.

"Park Place now will go ahead with plans for a 3,200-space, 11-story garage bounded by Atlantic, Pacific, Arkansas and Michigan avenues. Park Place had angrily suspended the project last winter, soon after McGreevey surprised the casinos with his tax plan.

"…The garage will serve The Walk, the $60 million retail and entertainment complex being completed in center city; Atlantic City Medical Center; Park Place's Bally's and Caesars casinos; and the Pier at Caesars, the $80 million retail, dining and entertainment complex being built to replace the Shops on Ocean One…"
