Pari-Mutuel Clerks End Strike at Dubuque Racetrack21 September 2004Las Vegas Sun DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Pari-mutuel clerks at the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino have approved a new three-year contract, ending a strike that began earlier this month. About a dozen clerks walked off the job Sept. 4 after contract talks failed to resolve issues over health insurance and holiday pay. The previous contract expired on Aug. 31. "The Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino is committed to quality jobs and competitive pay," said Bruce Wentworth, the racetrack and casino's general manager. "I believe that the agreement ratified by the members meets those objectives." Wayne Laufenberg, representative of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the union representing the clerks, said a contract settlement was reached Friday afternoon and the clerks voted on the pact Saturday morning. He declined to give the results of the vote but said it wasn't unanimous. Copyright © Las Vegas Sun. Inc. Republished with permission. |
