Palm Beach Kennel Club hosting $50,000 James W. Paul Mile Derby on Sunday20 February 2016(PRESS RELEASE) -- The fourth and final round of qualifying for Palm Beach Kennel Club Poker Room's $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby takes place Sunday, Feb. 21. Starting with an original field of 40 hopefuls, there are now 16 greyhounds who have a shot at making the final eight and an opportunity of winning the $25,000 first-place purse. Heading into the semifinals, track win leader and holder of the Pat C Rendezvous 3/8ths Mile Course track record (37.13 seconds) Ethel Is Here is the leading point earner, scoring two victories and a hard-fought second-place finish. The 85th running of the Three-Eighths Mile championship final will be contested in the 12th race Saturday afternoon, Feb. 27, and is one of the nation’s longest running stake events. The Derby is named in honor of humanitarian, greyhound owner and dedicated supporter of greyhound adoption James W. Paul. |
