Palau Congress May Override Gambling Bill Veto21 November 2003PALAU – As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "Palau's president Tommy Remengesau has called a special session of Congress to give it the opportunity to override the veto he made on a gambling bill. "Palau's National Congress earlier this week passed the bill allowing a casino to be built on sparsely populated Angaur Island, 50 kilometres from the capital, Koror. "However, President Remengesau is opposing the Bill because he says gambling will taint Palau's eco-tourism image and cultural traditions…" |
