Packer eyes Massachusetts20 September 2007AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the Australia Business Day: "After Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd cashed in its chips from the media game and received a multibillion-dollar bankroll from private equity firm CVC Asia Pacific, many are wondering which table it will sit at next. "James Packer's casino and gaming empire has fingers in many casino pies, from Melbourne to Macau, but another big 'M' just opened up as a potential market — and it has a few executives at PBL salivating. "The Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, plans to issue three class-3 casino licences for the US state. Indeed, Patrick proposes that three large, resort-style casinos be built — projects that are right up PBL's alley. "...Last year, Massachusetts residents spent an estimated $US1.1 billion at casinos in nearby Connecticut and Rhode Island..." |
