Outdoor pokies allowed

QUEENSLAND -- As reported by the Brisbane Times: "The State Government has reneged on a promise to stop clubs putting poker machines in outdoor smoking areas.

"Several clubs including Mounties at Mount Pritchard, Canterbury Leagues Club, Pittwater RSL and Kemps Creek Sporting and Bowling Club, have installed machines in outside smoking areas, following the ban on smoking indoors that began earlier this month.

"In September the former minister for gaming and racing Grant McBride told the Herald he would not allow clubs or pubs to put gambling machines in outdoor areas.

"But his successor, Graham West, has decided to take no action, despite concerns from anti-smoking groups..."
