Ottumwa Casino Developer Picked

IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "A group headed by Des Moines businessman Gary Kirke was selected Wednesday as the developer of a proposed casino and hotel complex in Ottumwa that could cost as much as $50 million.

"The River Hills Riverboat Commission, a local nonprofit group, said it chose Wild Rose Entertainment as its development partner. Commission officials said they plan to apply for a state gambling license, while Wild Rose will be responsible for the design, construction and operation of the casino project.

"Wild Rose, in a joint venture with Mississippi-based Isle of Capri Casinos, has proposed a $150 million project for a Des Moines-area casino and hotel. Des Moines city leaders this week said they would stand against any private company's attempts to bring a riverboat casino to the city, although Wild Rose officials said they would continue to explore their options.

"…The proposed River Hills Casino and Resort would create an estimated 350 to 400 jobs with a payroll ranging from $7 million to $10 million annually, local officials said. They said local ownership would be encouraged with a community stock offering…"
