Oregon tribes fight over Gorge proposal

OREGON -- As reported by the KGW News: "There's a new twist in the battle over a casino in the Columbia Gorge -- two Oregon tribes are fighting over whether the project should get the green light.

"The Grande Ronde Tribe, which operates Spirit Mountain Casino, says casinos should only be allowed on reservations and the Cascade Locks proposal should be thrown out.

"The Warm Springs Tribe, which proposed the Cascade Locks casino, says Spirit Mountain itself was built on land that wasn't originally part of any reservation.

"...The Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs said the $379 million casino will bring in $77 million in annual profit..."
