Oregon Tribal Leaders Support Casino Study11 March 2005OREGON – As reported by the Oregon News-Review: "Cow Creek tribal leaders are confident that the Seven Feathers Hotel and Casino Resort strengthens the economy of Douglas County. "A recent statewide study evaluating the effects of the nine tribal casinos in Oregon found that tribal gaming adds more than $1 billion to the state's economy. "'For Oregon, tribal gaming offers an economic development opportunity that generates jobs and income for tribal members and nonmembers alike,' said Sue Shaffer, chairwoman for the Cow Creek Tribe of Umpqua Band of Indians. "…Shaffer said the casino brings more than 1 million visitors to the county every year, supporting other businesses that are not directly related to the tribe, such as local restaurants and smaller hotels. "Michael Rondeau, operations officer for the Cow Creeks, said the tribe strives to maintain partnerships with local businesses. "…The Cow Creek Tribe currently employs about 1,300 people, Rondeau said. Nearly 1,000 of those jobs are in the casino complex, including the truck stop and RV park.
