Oregon Tracks Remove Gambling Machines

OREGON – As reported by the Oregonian: "After a six-month experiment, the owner of Portland Meadows and Multnomah Greyhound Park is getting rid of video gambling machines developed specifically for the racing industry.

"Magna Entertainment, North America's largest racetrack operator, just said, 'We're not going to go forward with it,' " said Jeff Grady, general manager of the two Portland-area tracks. .

"…Officials at the Oregon Racing Commission, which approved the video games earlier this year, said they had not raised any regulatory issues about this form of gambling.

"…Magna won permission to install the machines, which allow bettors to wager on replays of old horse races, after the tracks had sought unsuccessfully for years to install large numbers of video poker machines run by the Oregon State Lottery…"
