Opening date delayed for start of CityCenter construction trial

23 April 2012

by Tim O'Reiley

NEVADA -- Clark County District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez has postponed the opening date of the CityCenter construction trial by a month, to March 12.

The trial is expected to run from six to 12 weeks.

With most of subcontractors having been paid for their work on the $8.5 billion Strip resort complex, the case focuses on the severity of the construction defects on the never-finished Harmon Hotel. In particular, the issue is whether general contractor Perini Building Co. and a handful of subcontractors should be paid for their work and whether they or CityCenter owe damages.

As an example of the size of the case, some subcontractors have paid more than $1 million for a consultant to convert the thousands of pages of electronic documents into a format that all attorneys can search. The documents are now in a number of different formats.
