Ontario's NDP Calls for Investigation

ONTARIO – As reported by the CBC: "Ontario's NDP is calling for an investigation into how Ontario hires private American companies to run its casinos.

"'What [private companies] will do is go out – particularly to vulnerable individuals who have gambling problems or addictions – and try to rope them in,' said Michael Prue, the MPP for Beaches-East York.

"Earlier this week, a report prepared for the Law Commission of Canada, a federal advisory group, raised questions about the legality of hiring private companies to profit from provincial gambling.

"…Prue questioned whether private companies are benefitting at the expense of hospitals and schools, and suggested the deals letting them run the casinos could even be contrary to the Criminal Code…"
