Ontario Nixes Gambling on Ferries

ONTARIO – As reported by the Toronto Star: "The Ontario government torpedoed reports today that it would consider letting travellers on the new high-speed ferry to Rochester play video lottery terminals in provincial waters.

"A new measure introduced in the New York state legislature would allow the machines to be installed on the Spirit of Ontario ferry by amending state laws that allow VLTs at horse races around the state.

" …[Assemblyman Joseph Morelle] said the boat's operators were in discussions with the province about whether the machines would be allowed to operate when the vessel is in Canadian waters.

"But the province isn't interested, a senior Liberal insider said today…"
