Ontario Gambling Proceeds Need Monitoring: Auditor7 December 2005NTARIO, Canada -- As reported by the Canadian Press: "It's no safe bet that Ontario charities are getting all the proceeds they're owed from bingo halls and local raffles because the province doesn't properly oversee how they're run, the province's auditor general reported today. "Ontario's Alcohol and Gaming Commission regulates gambling activities even though municipalities issue close to 95 per cent of charitable gaming licences issued in the province. "But the commission should inspect more closely whether charities are receiving their fair share of hundreds of millions of dollars in wagers made annually, Jim McCarter said in his annual report. "...'For instance, it has no assurance that charitable organizations are getting the proceeds from gaming that they are entitled to and that those proceeds are being used for charitable purposes."
