Ontario Casinos Rebound26 August 2004NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario – As reported by the Canadian Press: "Ontario's gambling industry is beginning to rebound from difficulties posed by war in Iraq, SARS and a weak American economy in 2003, according to a report released Wednesday. "The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. released its performance figures for the first quarter of its fiscal year, saying the province's casinos took in $355.6 million in gross gaming revenue in those three months, 20 per cent of which goes to the province in the form of its 'win tax.' "The report says 13,749 employees worked during the period at Ontario's four commercial casinos: Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, Casino Niagara, Casino Windsor and Casino Rama between April and June of this year. "The opening of the Fallsview Casino in June is responsible for an upward spike in the total number of people working in Ontario's commercial casinos. "…The Niagara casinos raked in a combined total of $147.2 million, accounting for about 41 per cent of the provincial total…" |
