Ontario Casinos Consider Options21 April 2005NIAGARA FALLS – In the face of sobering statistics from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the city's two casinos are eager to turn the page. "An unrelenting series of setbacks in recent years led to a huge drop in revenues at Casino Niagara – $499 million in 2003-04 compared to $641 million in 1999-2000. "Terrorism in 2001, increased border security, war in Iraq, SARS, a soaring Canadian dollar and the blackout of 2004 have been identified as the reasons for the decline by gaming and tourism officials. "Niagara Casinos president Larry Lewin has never seen anything like it in his long career. He doesn't rule anything out now. " 'In the Internet world, where information moves so quickly, we are a very reactive world,' he said. " 'I would say what we saw here was tremendously unusual and I would hope we never see anything like this again.'…" |
