Ontario casino walkout averted

BRANTFORD, Ontario – As reported by the Brantford Expositor: "The chips were down —literally — as the Brantford casino prepared to close its doors at midnight Wednesday.

"But a last-minute tentative agreement reached minutes before the deadline meant the games went on.

"Negotiators for almost 700 employees represented by the Canadian Auto Workers and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming, which operates the casino, had been meeting 'ever available minute' to try and hammer out a first contract.

"No details of the pact were released pending a ratification vote by the union.

"OLG spokesman Jim Cronin said early today that the union is arranging to hold a vote, but when is uncertain…"
