Only One Application for Orange County Project

INDIANA – As reported by the Indianapolis Star: "Only one company applied to build the state's 11th casino in Orange County, proposing a $240 million project so formidable that no one else wanted to compete.

"The sole applicant that met Wednesday's deadline set by the Indiana Gaming Commission is the newly named Blue Sky Casino, a joint venture between real estate developer Lauth Group and an affiliate of Bloomington-based medical-device maker Cook Group.

"The partners billed themselves as a 'dream team' last week when they announced plans to build a casino, renovate two historic hotels and restore a golf course in an area plagued by high unemployment. Half of the gambling revenue would go to a charitable trust that would renovate the West Baden Springs Hotel and French Lick Springs Resort & Spa.

"…If Blue Sky wins, groundbreaking would take place in the fall, according to Lauth attorney Vernon Back. The casino would take about 18 months to build, he said…"
