One Ticket Wins $250 Million Jackpot

NEW JERSEY – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Somewhere there is a ticket worth an estimated $250 million. That ticket, which was purchased in Rutherford, New Jersey, matched all six numbers in the September 16, 2005 Mega Millions drawing. The winning numbers were 05-16-41-46-50 and the Mega Ball number was 01.

It comes as Mega Millions fever has grown from coast to coast. In fact, more than 2.2 million tickets won prizes in Friday's drawing.

A total of 23 tickets came within just one number of hitting the jackpot. Each matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were purchased in California (2), Georgia (3), Illinois (1), Massachusetts (1), Maryland (1), Michigan (1), New Jersey (2) New York (6), Ohio (2), Texas (1), Virginia (1), and Washington (2).

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
