Oklahoma Tribe's Colorado Plans Hit Snag

OKLAHOMA – As reported by the Oklahoman: "Negotiations for an Oklahoma tribe to place a casino in Colorado have hit a major snag, a Colorado city official said.

"As a result, the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes may not see a return on their federal land claim for several years.

"…The tribes' financial backer, Council Tree Communications, of Longmont, Colo., was negotiating with Hailey to build a casino at the town's entrance. However, another casino group recently beat them to it by securing a contract to purchase the land, Hailey said.

"'We don't view that as a showstopper,' said Steve Hillard, chief executive officer of Council Tree. He said the company is considering several other locations and would prefer a spot on the plains east of Denver.

"…Tribal officials said they would settle the claim in exchange for 500 acres on which they could own a casino and other, unspecified economic ventures…"
