Oklahoma Tribe to Open Temporary Casino

MIAMI, Oklahoma – As reported by the Joplin Globe: "The Peoria Tribe of Oklahoma and the city of Miami are betting on casino-style gambling to pay off in more tourism for the area.

"The Peoria Tribe, which owns the land, will open a small, temporary gambling operation on the property Thursday. The tribe plans a $6 million casino and entertainment venue to be open on the site sometime in August.

"… Peoria Chief George Froman said Tuesday that the venture will benefit the city through the purchase of utilities, as well as attracting more business for the area.

"…The temporary casino, which will open to the public at 4 p.m. Thursday, is about 4,500 square feet, and will have about 170 gambling machines and 30 employees.

"…The large casino will be an estimated 42,000 square feet. Plans call for 400 gambling machines, an off-track-betting operation and a 1,500-seat auditorium…"
