Oklahoma lottery falls short of estimates

OKLAHOMA -- As reported by the Tulsa World News: "The Oklahoma Lottery is expected to generate roughly $214.7 million in sales for fiscal year 2007, who is about $29 million less than estimates made earlier in the year.

"Jim Scroggins, the lottery's executive director, said the new figures are a more realistic expectation of the state's lottery sales.

"...The figures show that the state is expected to receive about $74 million from the lottery's proceeds. The bulk of that money is split between common and higher education.

"Lottery officials had said in May 2006 that $413 million in sales was possible, although they cautioned that the figure was 'aggressive.' In December, that number was revised to $243.6 million..."
