Oklahoma Group Requests Share of Casino Profits

CHICKASAW, Oklahoma – As reported by the Daily Ardmoreite: "Under the leadership of Governor Bill Anoatubby and the 13-person legislature, the Chickasaw Nation has experienced unprecedented economic growth. Now, a group of Chickasaws are asking the legislature to share some of the profits from gaming, smoke shops and other successful tribal ventures directly with Chickasaw voters.

"On Monday, Jerry Imotichey, president of the Chickasaw Alliance, sent a letter to each of the 13 legislators asking their support for a proposal to give $5,000 to each registered Chickasaw voter, regardless of residence or blood quantum. Earlier this year, legislator Wilson Seawright introduced a resolution to pay each voter $500.

"…The Chickasaw Alliance is an organization with membership open to all Chickasaws and the oldest group of its kind. Member Sue Simmons of Ardmore said although less than 30 people regularly attend the alliance's monthly meetings, more than 3,000 Chickasaws are on the group's mailing list. The alliance also supports term limits and increased funding for health care and education…"
