Oklahoma Derby Week raises more than $47,00030 September 2022(PRESS RELEASE) -- Remington Park raised more than $47,000 for charities across the state during a pair of events throughout Oklahoma Derby Week festivities. The track hosted its annual Riders Cup Golf Tournament on Monday, 19 September, just down the street at Lincoln Park Golf Course. On Derby Day on Sunday, 25 September, Remington Park held a Wine Festival during the hours before the big race, the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby, won by Rattle N Roll. Charities supported by Remington Park include Autism Oklahoma, the Family Awareness and Community Teamwork (FACT) Unit of Oklahoma City Police Department, Freedom School Oklahoma City, Inc., Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, Positive Tomorrows, Wovenlife, Citizens Caring for Children, Kids Joining Eternity, Good Shepherd Clinic and Oklahoma Race Horse Retirement programs including Horse and Hound and the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Retirement Program. “Remington Park has been a part of Oklahoma City for more than 30 years and we place great value in giving back to our community,” said Remington Park Executive Vice President Matt Vance. “We are humbled to be able to use the significant platform of Oklahoma Derby Week and the support of hundreds of people who participated in these events to help raise funds for all these deserving charities.” The Riders Cup annually is one of Remington Park’s biggest charitable events. This year’s tournament drew a record 53 teams with 183 participants, who helped raise $43,000, the highest amount ever from the event. Seven Oklahoma wineries participated in the Wine Festival, including Arri’bin Hills Winery, Coal Creek Vineyard and Winery, OkeOzark Winery, Pecan Creek Winery, Tidewater Winery, Waters Edge Winery in Moore and Wildhorse Canyon Farms. The event raised $4,040, also the most ever raised in its history. Vance said a new event that will be held during Oklahoma Classics on Friday, 21 October, will benefit these charities. The Oklahoma Craft Classics Beer Festival will take place during Oklahoma Classics, which is a night of Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbred racing that includes eight stakes races and more than $1 million in purses. |
