Ohio Tribal Casino Plans Revealed

LORAIN, Ohio – As reported by the Morning Journal: "Plans to build a Las Vegas-style gambling casino on the site of the former Lorain Pellet Terminal were revealed yesterday by city officials and the chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.

"The casino would be built on 5.6 acres that the city will sell to the Eastern Shawnee for $6 million.

"The tribe-owned and -operated facility would anchor a major hotel-retail development on the rest of the city's prime lakefront property, which will be leased to the Eastern Shawnee, according to a ''Lorain Harbor Resort'' plan announced by Mayor Craig Foltin and Chief Charles Enyart.

"…Foltin said the casino could net the city as much as $7 million a year through income taxes and a fee agreement, and Enyart and Foltin estimated the overall development could create 2,000 to 3,000 jobs upon completion.

"The whole casino-resort project is contingent on the Eastern Shawnee reaching an agreement with the state to allow what is called Class III gaming, or Las Vegas-style gambling such as poker, blackjack, slots, roulette and craps, which currently isn't permitted in Ohio…"
