Ohio Towns Open to Casinos

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – As reported by the Ohio News-Messenger: "Cedar Point and Put-in-Bay officials are responsive to hosting casinos if the state Legislature legalizes gambling later this year.

"Put-in-Bay Trustee Matt Miller said the gaming initiative undoubtedly will raise 'debate on both sides of the issue' from South Bass Island's 440 year-round residents. But before developers think about building a casino on the island, they should consider a major logistical problem -- transportation.

"…The only existing ways to reach the island are by airplane or ferry boat, which typically runs from March through November across Lake Erie, if weather permits.

"Transportation, however, is not a problem at Cedar Point. Neither is the potential of tarnishing Cedar Point's wholesome reputation by introducing gambling.

"…Port Clinton Mayor Tom Brown agreed with Miller, saying the gambling initiative would stir debate, although the mayor acknowledged the proposal carries a clear advantage…"
