Ohio State Dropped from Lawsuit

OHIO -- As reported by the Plain Dealer: "An Oklahoma tribe seeking a casino in Ohio has dropped the state as a defendant in a land-claim lawsuit.

"Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro said the move in federal court by the Eastern Shawnee shows the tribe's claims 'are baseless.'

"But tribe lawyer Mason Morisset said the tribe could drop Ohio, Gov. Bob Taft and other state officials as defendants because they never formally answered the tribe's lawsuit.

"…No tribe has done what the Eastern Shawnee is attempting - leaving its home state to open a casino elsewhere…"
