Ohio Mayor Ready for Casino

LORAIN, Ohio – As reported by the Ohio Morning Journal: "Mayor Craig Foltin said yesterday he has an ordinance ready for City Council consideration, if necessary, for Lorain to become a chartered city in order to get casino gambling.

"The ordinance could be necessary to get a casino in Lorain because Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell wants voters statewide to decide if 50 cities ruled by a charter can vote whether they want a casino.

"…Campbell's initiative would allow 50 cities in Ohio with a population of more than 50,000 or those that can prove they have 1 million or more tourists a year, such as Sandusky, to have home rule for casinos if Las Vegas-style gambling is approved by the state.

"…Lorain has plans to enter into a two-year purchase option agreement with the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The tribe wants to purchase lakefront property and open a $100 million casino-resort if Las Vegas-style gambling is approved by the federal and state governments…"
