Ohio Lottery Keeps Instant and Online Games

OHIO – As reported by the Ohio News-Herald: "Ohio not ready to scratch instant and online games as they are proving to be a hugely popular money maker

"You have to spend money to make money.

"That's the idea behind the Ohio Lottery's priciest instant games - $10 and $20 tickets that offer prizes of up to $7.5 million.

"And Ohioans are buying it ... big time.

"The lottery's three top-grossing instant tickets last week each cost at least $10, with combined revenues totaling nearly $7 million.

"…Those three big-ticket tickets grossed more in sales than the seven most popular $5, $2 and $1 tickets combined in the week ending Aug. 19.

"The high-priced instants with big payouts have helped the lottery regain revenues lost to Internet and casino gambling in recent years, and they now surpass the traditional drawing-based games that had long been the staple of state lotteries.

"…Last week, 60 percent of the lottery's $40 million income came from instant games like the $200 Million Cash Spectacular, $300 Million Extravaganza and Bonus Millions. .

"…The Ohio Lottery is meeting the desire for instant win-or-lose gratification with bigger games, bigger payouts and a more casino-like feel to many games…"
