Ohio Casino Critic Removed from Board

CANAL FULTON, Ohio – As reported by the Akron Beacon Journal: "A critic of an Indian tribe's effort to open a casino near the city is being pushed to resign from a volunteer board that oversees the historical district.

"Paul Bagocius was appointed by city officials less than a year ago to the Historical Preservation Commission, which controls such things as paint colors for properties in the district.

"But the loudest voice in a chorus of opposition to the casino is no longer wanted on the preservation commission.

"Bagocius has shared e-mails showing that City Councilman Victor Colaianni and Mayor John Grogan were calling for his resignation and, in the case of the mayor, elevating the effort to a threat of formal, public removal by the council.

"…Grogan said Tuesday that Bagocius is using his position on the commission to lend credibility to his anti-casino stance..."
