Official urges look at casino worker's firing

7 March 2007

NEW JERSEY – As reported by the South Jersey Courier Hill Post: "Assemblyman Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic City, urged state authorities to investigate the recent firing of a veteran Tropicana casino employee and outspoken anti-smoking advocate.

"Vincent Rennich of Somers Point was laid off Sunday from his position as a table games supervisor at the Tropicana Casino and Resort.

"…Rennich worked at the casino for 26 years and became a leading advocate for extending the state's indoor-smoking ban to casino floors after being diagnosed with lung cancer he believes was caused by constant exposure to second-hand smoke.

"Whelan sent letters to Attorney General Stuart Rabner, state Labor Commissioner David Socolow and the state Casino Control Commission requesting reviews of the Tropicana's actions…"
