Official: Taiwan Has No Casino Stance17 May 2005TAIWAN – As reported by the Central News Agency: "The Executive Yuan has no set stance on which of Taiwan-controlled outlying islands would be suitable for establishing casinos, Cabinet spokesman Cho Jung-tai said Tuesday. Cho made the remarks as the Home and Nations Affairs Committee of the Legislative Yuan is scheduled to review a revised statute governing development of the outlying islands that will legalize casino establishment on the islands. "If the draft casino law is passed by the legislature, the Executive Yuan will conduct a series of evaluations on all outlying islands, Cho said, adding that a set of matching measures to legalize gambling in the proposed casinos should also be worked out. "…Earlier in the day, Penghu County Magistrate Lai Feng-wei, along with a local pressure group, called on Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng to push for the early passage of the draft bill in order to legalize casino establishment on the islands…" |
